The Bechdel Film Club is an opportunity to watch new and classic films that pass the Bechdel Test. The test was created by Allison Bechdel, it highlights how women are underrepresented in film. There are three simple criterion:
1. There must be two women in the film, both with names
2. The two women must talk to each other
3. They must talk about something other than a man.
This week, we will show the film Pariah, a 2011 coming-of-age drama from US director Dee Rees that tells the story of Alike, a young lesbian African American navigating her conflicting identities and relationships.
Dinner or snacks are provided.
